Dr. Bill Brocklesby has been active in the field of high-resolution optical microscopy for 15 years, with experience in SNOM, AFM, STM, and high-resolution conventional microscopy. He has over 60 journal publications, and has supervised over 19 PhD students. He is active in teaching in lasers at undergraduate level, and ultrafast laser techniques at graduate level.
Within the University of Southampton, the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) is a centre of excellence for Photonics with more than 120 research staff, and is one of the largest photonics research centres in the world. The centre specialises in lasers and optical waveguides. The ORC has many years’ experience in ultrafast lasers, and provides graduate training in the field of optoelectronics. Its facilities include over 70 laser laboratories, two ultrafast laser laboratories, one of which is dedicated to the generation of short wavelength radiation, and a recently-completed £100M clean room complex, providing access to some of the most advanced nanofabrication facilities in Europe
